Eyebrow Threading – The Pros and Cons Guide

Eyebrow threading is one of the more elegant beauty treatments to watch, especially when compared to the messiness of wax or awkwardness of plucking, but it does have cons.

I’d first heard about eyebrow threading through a co-worker a few years ago. The whole idea of “threading” really intrigued me, but none of the beauty salons around me seemed to offer it at the time. I’d always had my eyebrows either waxed or plucked depending on who was doing it.

Just recently, I have noticed more beauty salons are now offering eyebrow threading, and there are now pop-up salons in the middle of shopping centres that specialise in threading.

I also noticed the women who do the eyebrow threading have perfectly shaped eyebrows. Those lovely smooth lines of threaded brows are really what urged me to just give it a go!

So, for your benefit, I shall describe how the technique works: The person performing the threading takes a piece of thin cotton, which is then doubled and twisted, with their hands constantly moving to and fro – almost like a scissor action.

Instead of one hair being pulled out at a time like plucking, several hairs are removed with each pass. An advantage threading has over waxing is that with threading there is more control in shaping the eyebrows, therefore giving you a perfect shape!

Threading is also gentler on your skin because of the increased precision, as opposed to the “spread and rip”, action of waxing.

From personal experience, I have found that each person has a different way of threading.

I have had a couple of painless experiences, and a couple that was more sensitive. To me, the feeling is very similar to plucking but much quicker. I have been in and out of the salon within 5-10 minutes on average.

The Con’s of Eyebrow Threading

I paid $20, which is a little more expensive than waxing/plucking.
It may take a few times to find someone who is good at threading.
It can be painful, depending on who performs the threading
Some hair growth is needed so the thread can attach to the hair.

Although it’s a little pricier than waxing and plucking I am definitely converted! I have thicker than usual eyebrows so for me threading is perfect, as I cannot get the same shape with waxing and plucking.
