People tell new mums to be they might get a little sick with morning sickness, put on a bit of weight and get swollen ankles.
And none of that matters because while you’re pregnant you start to feel such love for the bundle of joy growing inside you, it’s all worth it. But what about the things people forget to mention? The horrible things that can go terribly wrong. How would you deal with it?
Pregnancy is hard, even if you have a lovely pregnancy, it is still hard. And while there are some awesome parts to being pregnant, there are also some pretty horrific things that can happen during pregnancy.
I don’t want to scare the pants off you, considering you have spent enough time with them off getting pregnant. These are things that don’t come up in conversation, not even at antenatal classes. I just want to put it out there that these things can happen and as an expectant mother you will get through it, if it happens to you. Check out these 7 horrifying things that can happen during pregnancy:
1. 10 Rh Incompatibility
If you just found out you’re pregnant and you’re off to the doctor, the most important test your doctor takes is a blood type test. This determines your blood type and Rh factor. Your Rh factor is the little plus or minus symbol after your blood type thus it’s VERY important.
Most people “” about 85% “” are Rh positive. But if a woman is Rh negative and her baby daddy is Rh positive there is the potential for baby to have major health issues. The baby growing inside the Rh-negative mother may have Rh-positive blood inherited from the father, in which case the mummy’s blood will try and attack and eat the baby’s blood.
Don’t worry, your doctor won’t let it get that far and all that is prevented with you having shots every three months or so to prevent these antibodies from forming. I had RH incompatibility during all three of my pregnancies and while it sounds pretty bad, with the shots, you and bub are as safe as houses.
2. Cooking your Unborn Baby
Sitting in a lovely Jacuzzi may seem like a nice relaxing way to ease all the aches and pains of pregnancy, but trust me it is super risky and you run the risk of overheating your unborn baby. Same goes with a steam room and sauna. Firstly, you run the risk of dehydration, dizziness and low blood pressure and hoping into anything over 30 degrees is potentially hazardous to your baby, especially during the early months while the brain is developing.
Research shows exposure to high temps can increase your baby’s risk of spina bifida or some sort of birth disorder. Skip the relaxing in anything over 30 degrees. A bath is ok. You’re only partly submerged with your top half out allowing for cooling.
