A woman has shared her disappointment at how her mother-in-law found out the gender of their baby behind her back and announced it.
A woman, who called herself, Sad Mommy, has written a letter to agony aunt Dear Prudence, which was published by Slate magazine, about how her husband’s mother reacted to her decision not to find out the gender of her unborn baby.
She explained how she’d had a cordial relationship with her mum-in-law during her six-year marriage to her husband.
“I am now pregnant with his family’s first grandchild. My husband and I mutually decided that we didn’t want to know the sex before the birth.
“My mother-in-law was livid with our decision, even though I tried to placate her by using the obstetrician she suggested and allowing her to attend some of my prenatal appointments. She continued to bring up gender at every opportunity,” she wrote.
The woman then said how she was surprised to see her mother-in-law smiling broadly at her doctor’s office one day.
“A few days later I had messages from family members congratulating me on the baby girl I was having! My mother-in-law wheedled the information out of the ultrasound technician, who is a friend of hers, then announced it,” she added.
She ended her letter by saying how she was hurt by the actions of her mother-in-law, and that she and her husband had made a decision on the birth of their baby — to exclude his mother from their birthing plan!
Now that’s the way to do it, go mumma!
