A mother has shared how her stillborn baby gave her a purpose in life.

Mum, Nene Fulcher from Adelaide, was left heartbroken after learning she had a stillborn baby two years ago. Since then, she has dedicated her life to helping other grieving mothers.

On her Facebook page, Remembering Jacob, Ms Fulcher tells her story to allow others to draw hope from her tragic experience. She also has travelled miles to be beside a mother as she delivered a stillborn baby last month.

Last week, Ms Fulcher made a heartfelt open letter addressing it to the thousands of ‘grieving parents’ in the world. She wrote:

“Dear grieving parent,

“I see you, but I may not know the sadness that sits in your heart. I may walk past you in the street and not know that you’ve shed a hundred tears before getting out of the car to face the world.

“I may not know how many times you’ve found out that you’ve created life, and had it silently slip away before you could hold your child in your arms.”

Ms Fulcher then related it to her tragic experience as she tells every grieving parent how she understands them.

“I know the kind of unreal pain you feel. I know what it feels like to have all of your hopes and dreams ripped away in an instant…I understand the intensity of yearning you’ll live with until you take your very last breath,” she wrote.

She also offered advice for other grieving mothers.

“No one can expect you to go back to the same person you were…You should let go of that expectation of yourself. It’s not realistic. Be kind to yourself. You’re doing an amazing job,” she said.

Ms Fulcher then offered hope by saying, “Even though you feel isolated and alone… You are not. There are people just like us everywhere.”

She said that she can recommend and guide mothers to individuals, organisations and groups who can help, and she concluded her post by saying:

“We are strong…YOU ARE STRONG…Go gentle with yourselves.”
