The mother of a girl with autism has issued an appeal on social media to find more versions of her daughter’s favourite shirt, which she has worn for five years.

Mum, Deborah Skouson was not expecting too much when she posted the appeal on Facebook, asking if anyone could help her find the favourite shirt, which Target had long since stopped making, for her daughter, Cami.

Ms Skouson said that they also had already bought out the supply available on eBay of the frilly pink shirt decorated with purple flowers. She wrote:

“Okay friends and family, I need your help! As most of you know, my daughter Cami has autism. For the past 4-5 years, she has been fixated on THIS shirt.

“She got her first one in kindergarten 5 years ago, and we have found 4 more since then, mostly on eBay. Her current one is almost unwearable.’

“This is where you come in. We need another ‘pink flower shirt’, so will you please share this post or even just the photo?”

To her surprise, the post got so much attention that it sparked a widespread display of generosity and support as strangers searched for the rare t-shirt. Some even offered to sew homemade versions with similar designs.

Her post has now been shared more than 3,500 times.

Now, Ms Skouson has received around 80 identical flower shirts shipped to her home in Utah, with hundreds of strangers willing to send more. A woman who has a son with sensory processing disorder also sent Ms Skouson a shirt, saying she could have it for free.

She told Daily Mail Australia she was totally ‘overwhelmed’ with the response.

“I was hoping for a few extra shirts we could use for backup. As of right now, we are up to 80 shirts, with more messages coming in.

“I have been brought to tears many times over the past week, and it’s because so many strangers have reached out to my little girl with love,” she said.

Ms Skouson said Cami struggles with communication and has autism. Since Cami saw the shirt, Ms Skouson said Cami had fallen in love with it especially after being photographed wearing it on her first day of kindergarten.

“She loved looking at those pictures any time I would let her, and still does. She started wearing the shirt more and more towards the end of her kindergarten year, and just became attached to it. She’s drawn to the pattern, and she loves the color fuschia,” Ms Skouson explained.
