A miracle baby who was born with a 1.2kg tumour on her body has defied the odds after she was given only 7% chance of survival.

Mum Sharna Spears was only 23 weeks pregnant when she went into labour with her daughter, Aleyathiah, and expected every mother’s nightmare — that her baby would not make it — after doctors found a 1.2kg tumour outside of her baby’s body.

“Labour was the most horrible thing. I was on bed rest not able to move – only for a shower,” she told Daily Mail Australia.

Her labour would start and hospital staff would have to stop it, sometimes minutes later, other time, hours later. “All I wanted to do is keep her inside me as long as possible when my water broke,” she said.

However, on January 13, 2010, there was no way of stopping it and the doctors had to take action to save the baby.

Ms Spears was rushed off for a C-section but was shocked after doctors told her that due to her baby’s low weeks gestation and tumour, there was only a seven per cent chance she would live.

She said she struggled every day with the idea that her daughter wouldn’t make it.

However, after a 108-hour labour, her baby was born weighing only 900g but has remarkably defied the chances of survival.

“There was not a day that would go by that I didn’t break into tears thinking my little bundle would be taken from me. To think leaving that hospital without her, it just wasn’t in the picture. She was strong for me. Every day she would prove them wrong,” Ms Spears said.

Five days after being born, Aleyathiah was brought to Sydney and underwent her first operation to remove the huge tumour from the bottom of her tail bone.

Now, seven years later, Aleyathiah suffers from incontinence, has severe digestion issues, has a cyst on her brain that requires regular testing, and an intellectual disability. She is in a support class at school as she can’t go to the toilet due to issues with her bowels, but she still fights.

Her family has setup a GoFundMe page hoping to raise awareness around her condition and fund her ongoing medical expenses. “By spreading the word I’m hoping to bring more people like our selves together and raise awareness. In seven years, there has been little to no knowledge about what my daughter is going through,” Ms Spears said, adding that the funds that are raised will be used for Aleyathiah’s toileting assistance and medical costs, travel, special appointments, testing, and equipment that will make her day to day living easier.
