A 57-year-old woman is making sure women in Brisbane, Queensland arrive home safe after a night out. Meet Grandma Uber.
Kathy Raydings started being an Uber driver seven months ago and has a great reason for doing so.
“My purpose here is to make sure the women of Brisbane get home safe. I want those women to have no fear”¦ It’s the greatest pleasure for me,” she said.
9News reported that the grandmother has cornered a niche market in central Brisbane by offering women a safe passage home.
Since she became a ride share driver, Grandma Uber has already become popular in the area and even has her own Facebook page, Grandma Uber, filled with happy selfies with her customers. She has also driven more than 5,000 women home, according to 7 News.
Grandma Uber said she doesn’t want any more young women to be molested or feel frightened to go out at night.
“There are horrendous stories, I’ve heard it so many times from my riders. They should be able to go out, have their great night out and not have the stress about coming home and who’s going to pick them up,” she said.
Grandma Uber is also known for bringing snacks along for her passengers including home made slice and energy drinks.
Since her service is becoming high in demand, she has advertised for more grannies to join the ranks.
On her Facebook Page, she urges women who want to help young girls get home safe and offers to help them set themselves up with the company.
Grandma Uber is open to helping men get home safe, too.
