Hero Toddler Saves Twin Brother From Being Crushed Under a Fallen Dresser

A two-year-old boy has become a hero after saving his twin brother who was trapped under a fallen dresser.

Brock Shoff, from Utah in the US, was playing in his bedroom when a dresser tipped over onto him as his twin brother, Bowdy looked on.

Captured in a home surveillance camera, quick-thinking Bowdy has shown seemingly superhuman strength as he rescues his brother who was already crying under the corner of the heavy dresser.

The twins’ father, Ricky Shoff has posted the video on Facebook, which was also uploaded on YouTube, as a warning to others of the dangers of tipping dressers. He wrote:

In the video, the brothers can be seen playing around the bedroom when the dresser suddenly tipped over hitting Brock and trapping him underneath.

There were no adults in the room at the time to help as the twins’ mum, Kayli, had gone upstairs for a moment.

Impressively, Bowdy calmly walks around the dresser, trying to figure out how to help his trapped twin, before coming up with a plan. At first, he tries to lift the dresser up with his bare hands, but it’s too heavy, so he tries pushing it – and it slowly begins to move until Brock is able to roll out from underneath and frees himself from the heavy dresser.

The video concludes with Brock crying as his brother turns to him.

Kayli said that both boys have recovered and were playing together when she returned to the room. She added that she didn’t hear the dresser falling or her son crying.

After the incident, Kayli decided to set up a charity aimed at preventing the high number of children who die in the same way. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission say that in 2012 over 25,400 children are injured every year by falling furniture, televisions or appliances.

She told MailOnline that “it’s a miracle that Brock survived and was not seriously injured.”

“He was one of the lucky ones and that should in NO way give parents a false sense of security thinking a child can always survive a dresser tip-over.

“Although it was an amazing demonstration of twinship and resourceful brotherly love, it could have ended up being much more tragic, especially if that child had been alone.

“The brother attempting to move the dresser also could have moved it the wrong way and caused the one under the dresser to become more injured, or, he could have become a victim, too,” she said.

Kayli also pointed out that dressers must be anchored to the wall, and installing security cameras should be a must for babies and toddlers.

“Had Brock been hit in the head, or God forbid, both boys be trapped under a fallen dresser, a child pinned under a piece of furniture would have potentially stopped breathing or their heart could have stopped,” she said.
