A couple in the US who dreamed of adoption have shared the heartwarming story of how they ended up adopting four kids in less than 24 hours.
Kaley Carling, from Utah, who has a Lupus, cannot have children herself because of the medication she was taking, and so she and her husband, Jeremy, decided to adopt.
“Ever since I was a teenager, and I knew what fostering and adoption was, I wanted that to be a part of my life whether I was able to have children biologically or not,” she told US ABC.
However, the couple’s first attempt to adopt wasn’t successful after a surrogate they had been working with decided to keep the baby after giving birth. The next thing they knew, the surrogate was arrested for child sex trafficking. The couple wanted to adopt the baby girl but she was given to a relative, and later both she and the relative were murdered.
The couple was left devastated but in August, social services contacted them to say that two little girls “” Indie, 1, and Haven, 2 “” were up for fostering, and in less than 24 hours, they got another call from a new mother who asked them if they could adopt her twin daughters, nine-month-old Sunny and Weslie.
The adoptions of all four girls were formally completed late last month.
Ms Carling posted her inspiring story along with a photo of herself, her husband, and their four adopted kids on Reddit.
“Our journey to get to this point has been anything but easy; health issues, infertility, failed adoptions, death. Heartbreak. And more heartbreak.
“It seemed like it would never end.”
“Four kids two and under is no joke, but our dreams were realised (times four!) and we are so grateful and happy,” she posted online.
The new mum said her family’s situation was proof to never give up. “We are here to give hope to those in a similar situation to persevere, to push through,” Mrs Carling said.
