Anana Ecological Resort – A New 5 Star Ecological Holiday in Thailand

On Thailand’s Southern West Coast sits a 5-star ecological resort unlike anything Thailand’s mainland has seen before, and believe it or not, it’s most likely within any budget!

Anana Ecological Resort, Ao Nang, Krabi, Thailand is a 5-star resort with minimal ecological impact on the environment.

Anana Ecological Resort is situated in Ao Nang, Krabi on Thailand’s Southern West Coast and is set amongst Thailand’s captivating scenery of land and sea. Anana sits at the base of Krabi’s lush, thriving jungle and offers something a little different to your standard Thai beach resort holiday.

Krabi and Ao Nang were one of my favourite areas in Thailand.

First up let’s talk about the concept behind Anana Ecological Resort. It’s Thai travel with a difference.

Inspired by nature, Anana has an extremely low carbon footprint so you can ‘experience guilt-free Thai hospitality while enjoying the comfort of 5-star accommodation and amenities. They are Green Globe Certified and dedicated to The World Tourism Organisations Sustainably mandate.

Everything runs on Thai-time here. As soon as you arrive, you are embraced with that famous Thai hospitality. The team at Anana will endeavour to accommodate any request happily. They are friendly, honest, endearing, and truly interested in your comfort and what you got up during the day.

Anana rooms and suites are contemporary and minimalist.

We were guests of Anana in a family suite, and the kids were excited to have bunk beds to sleep in.

These rooms are cleverly designed.

The bunks run horizontally across the wall making the room feel more spacious.

There is ample storage, and the beautiful minimalist bathrooms are at one with the ecological feel of the property. It’s also stocked with eco-friendly bath amenities.

Anana can arrange all sorts of day trips and tours for you and your family including Krabi eco-island cruises and zero waste sunset cruises and horse-riding on the beach.

Streats Restaurant

The first thing we did once we arrived, of course, was head to Streats restaurant for a very late lunch. And what a lunch it was!

Fruity cocktails and mocktails were just what we needed after our drive from Phuket, and they were refreshing, colourful and full of flavour. Fresh and crispy spring rolls that were so good we ordered seconds. Fragrant curries and satay chicken sticks had us licking our fingers and even Miss nine who runs a mile when veggies appear ate one of their rice paper rolls, which have crisp salad bursting from the tops of them. You’ll find this salad is often grown on-site in their farm gardens.

Streats is modern and offers a relaxed dining atmosphere. Breakfast is a deliciously varied buffet then the rest of the day and evening it’s open for casual, tasty, fresh Thai and western-style dining with a view overlooking the volcanic stone pool and garden.  They make a mean latte here too!

Permaculture Art Farm Farm-to-Table Dining

 Kickback in Anana’s organic garden and appreciate their commitment to sustainability in their one-acre permaculture farm. At Cooper’s café you can enjoy a range of freshly made smoothies and healthy vegetarian and vegan delights along with organic tea and coffee.

When you feel the need to stretch your legs, you’re welcome to wander the garden and check out the local produce they grow. You will often find farm-fresh produce in the café and restaurant. ‘Using the regenerative principle of composting and water conservation, we expect to achieve an ever replenishing food cycle.

The farmhouse structures are built from natural Adobe Baan Din and recycled materials where staff teach guests the importance of conservation in these areas, engaging in nature, and the art of Thai cooking. The cooking classes focus on new and exciting ways to appreciate the benefits of raw food and gourmet vegetarian meals.

The Rooftop Sky Garden

You can join in on the morning yoga session if you’re an early riser or order a drink and while the hours away lost in the limestone cliffs and jungle surrounds of the property.  It’s the perfect spot to relax and recuperate too, order a drink and snack, then sit back and relax.

The Spa

I am addicted to all things spa and massage, let me get that out of the way right now! And Anana’s Crystal Salt Spa is lovely. Each guest receives a welcome massage in the crystal salt room, but I highly recommend you book in for a full body massage or treatment.

While resort massages cost more than the local town massage shops, they are well worth the money here.  The staff are talented and use beautiful organic products in their facials and treatments. They also hold yoga sessions in the gorgeous orange-tinged salt room.

The Pool

The 25 metre, salt filtration volcanic stone infinity pool that’s fed by mountain spring water has a swim up bar for cocktails, fruity drinks and tasty snacks, a shallow kids section, Jacuzzi and takes advantage of those limestone cliff and forest views. The water is a pleasant temperature, even when its raining, which it often did when we were in Krabi! Kids are more than welcome to play and the pool area is clean and inviting.

Private Beach

I mentioned earlier that Anana isn’t your typical Thai beach resort, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a beach for you to explore and enjoy! Anana not only have a private beach, they’ll shuttle you to and from it each and every day.  No crowds, no pushy salesmen trying to sell you a sarong. Just calm water, 150 metres of unspoilt sandy beach, and a canopy of palm trees and mangroves.

There’s free WiFi (most important because you’ll want to share this tropical oasis on your socials, tropical fruity drinks, more Thai food to indulge in, beachside massages and hammocks to relax in.

Krabi Town

Last but not least is Krabi Town. A lively yet laidback town that hasn’t quite yet succumbed to the follies of the over-populated tourist areas, visit soon, before it does become overrun.

There’s plenty of shopping, great coffee spots, delicious Thai food, tours to take, and Thai people meet and chat too.

The prices here for shopping are much better than Phuket, so if you see something you like, grab! It will cost more in other parts of Thailand trust me we leant the hard way!

If you are in Thailand in the wet season, keep an eye on the bay, dark clouds roll in fast, and heavy rain is never far behind!

Its hottest between Feb and April and while still warm in the rainy season the wind and rain can bombard the place in a matter of minutes.

Arriving by air, Krabi International Airport (KBV) is approximately 45 minutes from Ao nang and 150 minutes from Phuket International Airport.
