5 Minute French Toast

I make this recipe at least once a week when I feel like a hot lunch – even though technically it is a breakfast food.  This recipe can use slightly stale (not mouldy) bread – so it is a good way to use up a loaf that has been sitting around for a day or two.

Now this recipe can be served savoury or sweet.  Personally I love it with just a bit of salt and pepper on top – but most people drizzle syrup and add fruit.  Totally your call.

Method

  1. Cut the two slices in bread diagonally (to make four triangles).

  2. Heat a frypan on medium heat and add the teaspoon of butter until it is bubbling.

  3. In a shallow bowl, add the egg and milk and whisk together really well.

  4. Dunk the bread slices into the egg mixture, ensuring it is totally saturated - then turn the bread over and soak it again.

  5. Pop straight into the bubbling butter then cook until browned on both sides.

  6. Serve hot with syrup.
