If you’ve never made an apple strudel before, you really can’t go wrong with this Simple Apple Strudel recipe. It’s a really tasty family dessert that is easy on the tastebuds, and on the budget. Using cheap apples and simple frozen pastry, this is one recipe that you won’t need to worry about getting wrong.
Method
-
Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Line a large tray with baking paper.
-
Prepare the apples by peeling, coring and cutting them into small cubes or slices. Place them in a bowl with the lemon juice, raisins, dried fruit, spices and 1/3 cup of breadcrumbs. Stir gently, until combined.
-
Place one sheet of the filo pastry on your work space. Spray lightly with olive oil (mild vegetable oil also ok) and sprinkle over a small number of breadcrumbs. Repeat this until all the pastry is used, and you have four layers.
-
Spoon the apple mix along the long side of the pastry, leaving a few cm of empty space at either end. Fold these ends in, and roll up the pastry.
-
Lift it carefully onto your prepared tray, spray lightly with oil, and bake for about 45 minutes, or until golden. Let stand for 10 minutes, then slice and dust with icing sugar as desired.
-
Serve as is, or with cream, yoghurt or ice cream.
