Recipe Hints and Tips:
- The above pizza doughs in this Gourmet Pizza Dough Recipe can be frozen. Wrap in a ball and double wrap in plastic wrap. Freeze for up to two months. Defrost in the fridge overnight before rolling out and using as usual.
We have two different types of gourmet pizza dough recipes: a traditional gourmet pizza dough recipe, and a spelt flour recipe. Make sure you also check out our two-ingredient Greek Yoghurt Pizza Dough, which is amazingly yeast free!
Make sure you place the dough somewhere warm to rise. I read a news article recently where a lady put her dryer on for three minutes (empty) – then put the pizza dough in the dryer to rise for the next hour – that is an ingenious idea – especially if it is Winter or you are living in a colder area.
Where to Buy Yeast for Your Gourmet Pizza Dough:
You can pick up yeast in the baking aisle of your local supermarket. If you don’t cook with yeast very often, buy the yeast that is pre-measured out into 7 gram sachets – that is the standard amount used for most recipes and it saves the rest of the yeast from going stale.
Pizza Dough Cooking Tips:
When cooking pizza dough, pre-head the oven with a pizza stone if you have one. These are a GREAT investment – they really allow the pizza crust to crisp from the bottom and make a much better pizza. You can pick them up cheap from most kitchen shops for about $20 each and they will last you for years. Plus always pre-heat the oven or pizza oven well before you add the pizza – again it makes a huge difference!
