Ginger Turmeric Birth Recovery Tea
After giving birth or having a c-section, you know it will take time for your body to rebuild and recover from the trauma of birth. But it is also hard to be really good to yourself when you are up with a newborn. But this is a time in your life you should really take care of your body – after all, it just did an amazing job of building a baby!
In China, a new Mother doesn’t leave the house for 30 days after birth. Yep, for thirty days, new Mums get to be at home in their pajamas with their newborn. This is the time of their recovery. The Chinese call this ‘Sitting the Month’ During this month the mother must only drink tepid or hot drinks, and eat bland but nutritious food, usually made by their Mother or Mother in Law who waits on the new Mum hand and foot. Tea is one of the hot drinks the Mother will be fed during this time.
Ginger is great for a new mother and a breastfeeding mother. Drinking fresh Ginger Tea is thought to improve breast milk production and assist in the healing of the body.
NOTE: If you lost a lot of blood during your birth, make sure you check with your Doctor before consuming loads of Ginger.
