I love a good and chewy Cheesy Garlic Bread when I’m having soup.
It’s probably the best comfort food combo when it’s cold or on a rainy day. Ah, garlic bread. The quintessential side dish to nearly any Italian-inspired meal. But what makes a great garlic bread? For me, it starts with a good, crusty baguette.
None of that pre-sliced nonsense – I want to be able to tear off hunks of bread with my hands and feel the crunch of the crust giving way to the softness of the interior. And the garlic flavor must be present but not overwhelming. After all, a Chewy Cheesy Garlic Bread should complement the rest of the meal, not overwhelm it.
Once you’ve got your perfect baguette, it’s time to add the cheese. I like a nice, sharp Parmesan for its salty flavor and ability to stand up to the garlic. But whether you use Parmesan, Asiago, or even Swiss, make sure to use a good quality cheese – none of that processed stuff!
Finally, a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkling of salt is all that’s needed to bring this classic dish to perfection. So next time you’re in the mood for some comfort food, don’t reach for the jar of marinara – try making your own garlic bread instead.
Gahhh, now I’m thinking about making some of this Chewy Cheesy Garlic Bread and it instantly made me want to make some Onion soup, too! Or perhaps some Creamy Pasta Carbonara? I especially enjoy it with a bowl of soup or a salad. The garlic bread is nice and chewy, and the cheese on top adds a delicious richness.
Method
-
In a small bowl place the butter and peel, then mince 5 cloves of garlic.

Melt the butter and garlic in the microwave. Set aside and let it cool.

Slice the bread in half, place the two halves side by side with inner part exposed and put the melted butter on the inner part of the bread.
-
Wrap the bread in foil and bake at 200 degrees C for 7 minutes.
-
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool. While waiting, grate the cheese.
-
Add the grated cheese on top of the bread and bake again for 10-12 minutes.
-
Eat while hot and pair with soup or pasta!
