Caramel Candy Apples
We’ve all heard of traditional toffee apples which are a hit at fairs and fetes, but what about Caramel Candy Apples? They are something just a little bit more gourmet!
We used Wether’s Originals as the caramels in this recipe – but if you can find any hard caramel lollies – they will work perfectly.

Method
-
Unwrap all the caramels.
-
Using a large wooden spoon, mix the caramels and water together in a saucepan.
-
Cook the caramel mixture on low heat, stirring every 5 minutes until it is completely melted.
-
While the caramels are melting, wash and dry the apples.
-
Pour the sugar into a small shallow bowl.
-
Spread a large piece of waxed paper, about 30cm square, on the counter. Lightly grease it with cooking spray.
-
When the caramels have finished cooking, take a stick and carefully push it into an apple at the stern end.
-
Carefully dip the apple into the hot caramel, turning the apple so that it is completely covered in caramel.
-
Hold the apple above the saucepan and use a rubber spatula to scrape any extra caramel off the bottom of the apple.
-
Dip the bottom of the caramel apple in the sugar. (Doing this helps to keep it from sticking to the waxed paper).
-
Place the apple on the greased waxed paper to cool.
