Brown Betty is a creamy American-style dessert that contains fruit and truly sweet crumbs! Perfect all year round!

Brown Betty usually contains apples (you can use them in this recipe if you want), but who said we can’t substitute them for bananas? This dessert is truly yummy! Kids will love this one because it’s sweet and just perfect to be eaten after dinner!

This might not be super easy but the instructions are already given so you can just follow them – and this will not take you an hour to make! Perfect for semi-rush moments!

If you want to level up your dessert, you can add ice cream on top to make it more delicious!

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.

  2. In a bowl, mix the biscuit crumbs, cinnamon and butter together.

  3. Press half the mixture into the base of a greased shallow pie dish.

  4. In a glass jug, beat together the egg, sugar, flour and cornflour until thick and pale yellow.

  5. Heat the milk over low heat on the stove. Gradually whisk the egg mixture into the milk mixture. Cook over medium heat for about five minutes, whisking constantly until the mixture has thickened. Cool for a few minutes and stir in the vanilla.

  6. Fold the fruit into the custard mixture and pour into the pie dish.

  7. Cover with the rest of the crumb mixture and bake for 25 minutes or until the top is browned.

  8. Let it cool for 15 minutes before serving.

Recipe Hints and Tips:

  • Brown Betty is beautiful served with cream or ice cream.
  • Not suitable to freeze.
