This post is brought to you by Hachette Australia
Whether you’re a youngster or a grown-up thinking of your Papa, or a Mum (another sort of grown-up) buying your husband or partner a gift on behalf of your offspring, giving Dad a really special Father’s Day gift is something that we all want to do.
Dads can have so many interests and hobbies, like sports, gizmos, gadgets, Lego, music, bikes (the list goes on) you would think finding just the right pressie would be simple, but It’s not always as easy as that when you’re trying not to double up and have Christmas and birthdays thrown in the mix each year!
Back when we were kids, Father’s Day could have easily been renamed ‘Happy Socks and Jocks Day!’ and now that I’m one of those grown-up types, it could certainly be known as ‘It’s the day before Father’s Day, quick what are we getting Dad?’ and nipping down to the newsagent for an instant scratchie and block of rocky road to put with the socks, jocks and straw hat (oh yes we stepped it up last year) has pretty much been the norm. Not this year though, I’m pleased and a bit proud to say, it’s all sorted already! And it’s something that, even though we have had many of over the years, we never, ever tire of them it’s BOOKS!
Now I realise many others have given literary treasures as gifts before, but it honestly never occurred to me to take a moment to read a quick review of some of the latest hot-off-the-press titles, obey the add to cart instruction and have them conveniently delivered to my front veranda! Hachette Australia you’ve made my day”¦and Voila, Father’s Day sorted!
I’ll admit there was a bit to choose from, so I enlisted the aweSAHM office team to pick a book to read and review for moi:
Fatherhood: Stories About Being A Dad William McInnes
Banger tales of warm summer afternoon bbq fun, learning to control a vehicle, road trips and a couple of ‘sandy eye’ moments made this reflection on fatherhood, by the very decent actor and writer William McInnes, a new favourite of mine.

Journeys to the Other Side of the World: Further adventures of a young naturalist. David Attenborough
Travel, exploration, wildlife and indigenous lifestyles presented in the very special way that only Mr Attenborough can, taking us from the exotic island of Madagascar to the red centre of The Northern Territory in our very own Australia. I was hooked!
Fantastic photography and that young David…woah what a hottie!

The Outsider Stephen King
This one was actually my pick of the bunch, I’ve loved Stephen King and his creepy, creepy tales since Odd Thomas back in the day! I was hesitant to go back to the prickly-feels-up-the-back-of-the-neck stuff now that I’m the protector person (another grown-up thing) but I love how Mr King takes a gut-wrenching murder mystery and adds a dash of supernatural to keep you looking over your shoulder for a week solid!

Careless Love: DCI Banks 25 Peter Robinson
Banks always has me turning pages with each book.. In this one, the trusty detective finds himself immersed in two mysterious deaths that are linked by one unlikely connection! I smashed this mystery full of darkness and intrigue during late-night baby feeding sessions whilst everyone else slept. I’m thinking Hubby might enjoy this for a Father’s Day present, milk splashes and all!

Best Foot Forward Adam Hills
Anyone who is a fan of the TV show Spicks and Specks and its hilarious and very talented host Adam Hills, will love this book. Seriously funny stuff retelling the tales of gigs with Australia’s finest and funniest comedians and how he karked it on stage (but survived that learning curve)… it’s bloody entertaining!

Giving books is a wonderful gift – it’s a known fact that children who see their Dads reading books become avid readers themselves! And even if he is isn’t a voracious devourer of written words and only gets the time to read a few books each year, you can at least be sure you’re making it a great read for the great Dad in your life!
Oh and we’re still popping in the scratchie, rocky road and jocks”¦because the scratchie makes a decent bookmark, our children think giving anyone undies is hilarious and…well, the chocolate speaks for itself!
