Nervously, I cleared my throat from the doorway of his office.
Startled, he looked up, his grim expression cleared and softened as he looked at me. “You’re early; I thought we weren’t going to dinner for at least another hour?”
“I know, but I thought that we could maybe use Valentine’s Day a little differently. Dinner with you is always wonderful, you know that, but this is a special day!” I purred.
His eyes gleamed as he raised his brows in the way that always made my heart beat faster, that made my skin tighten and raise my awareness of him. “What did you have in mind?” he murmured as he pushed his chair away from his desk.
I drew a deep breath, knowing that he was expecting me to suggest we go shopping or something similar whereas what I was thinking was quite different. My awareness of him heightened as I studied him and noted his fingers moving reflexively; already in my imagination I could feel them running through my hair, down my neck”¦..
I struggled to keep my voice even. “We-e-e-ell, you know how you are the CEO of the company, and your office is secluded from the rest of the business, and it IS Valentine’s Day…..” I winked slowly at him, willing him to catch on. Which he did, very quickly! Just as quickly, I felt a faint prickling of sweat over me, and my blouse felt tight against my bust as I breathed. He stood up from his chair, gazing at me as he did so. I willed my legs to move and I managed to cross to him, closing the door behind me. I stood in front of him, only a few inches between us, my mouth dry, my body a mass of tingling sensations. I reached out and took hold of his tie, using it to tug him closer to me. I slipped my arms around him, relishing his aftershave, and pulled his mouth down to meet mine in a gentle kiss. He whispered against my lips “Tell me what you want; I just want to make this a special Valentine’s moment.”
We were already alongside his desk, which I had noticed he had cleared prior to the end of his working day. I patted the surface of the desk invitingly. We kissed again, deepening the connection between us, enjoying the full body contact we had.
“Well,” I said, “You’ve been working very hard, putting in far too many hours here at this desk, I miss you! I miss this connection, I miss talking with you, I miss being with you, I miss you, I miss US! We have an hour before we have to be anywhere else; it looks like nearly everyone else on this floor has gone, let’s just be us for a little while. And your desk is spacious, and clear”¦”
“An oasis of peace with you” he mused, “I like that idea.” His eyes travelled over my face, and he carefully rubbed at my smudged lipstick. Then he noticed the basket I’d left just inside his door. He smiled slowly, sinfully, looked back at me and asked “Does that have in there what I think it does?” I smirked “Have a look and see, lover!”
In four quick long strides, he had reached the basket, picked it up and brought it back to his desk. “Go ahead, open it up you’re wasting valuable time here!” I teased. His eyes sparkled with the anticipation I was sure was showing in mine and the pulse under his jaw sped up to match the speed of mine. He unlatched the basket, opened it up and sighed with satisfaction. “This is just what we need to pass the time away; and we may even need to cancel the dinner booking!”
He delved into the basket and drew out two crystal wineglasses and a bottle of well-known, high end red wine. He then pulled out a dish of carefully selected treats to nibble on, and when he looked a little further, he moaned and said “You’ve thought of everything, haven’t you?” and from the basket produced……
SCRABBLE!
You see, we have an excellent relationship, and decided a long time ago that Valentines’ gifts weren’t for us. But, what is important to us is maintaining contact; mental, emotional, spiritual and physical. And sometimes you have to make that extra effort to find that time for each other, to enjoy and relish that connection. And it doesn’t need to be with a ‘significant other’, but we all have a special ‘go-to’ person to enjoy time with. Make it count!
