Investigations are ongoing after two thieves stole a ute with a toddler boy inside from the Ballarat suburb of Sebastopol on Sunday.
Dad, Dave Gleeson was delivering a window when his ute was stolen with his toddler inside at about 5:45pm. He said that he left his keys in the ignition and within minutes, two people had climbed into the car and driven away. “I was literally gone for a couple of minutes, I was in shock and said ‘where’s my car?’,” he said.
After 20 minutes the ute was found less than two kilometres away with the toddler still inside.
“20 minutes it felt like three hours,” Mr Gleeson said.
The boy was unharmed and was reunited with his parents.
Mr Gleeson said he was relieved but said that he learned his lesson.
“You cannot leave kids or keys in the car…It will happen,” he said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Police have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
