A three-year-old girl was found unharmed and sleeping just a few metres away from the bodies of her mum and a man thought to have died in a murder-suicide in Sydney’s west.
Police were alerted after a relative visited the house in Smithfield, about 12.35pm yesterday and found the bodies. The man, believed to be in his 40’s and the woman, who was in her 30’s have not had their names publicly released.
However, neighbours described the pair who lived at the house as pleasant but said they had recently broken up, with the woman and young girl leaving earlier this year.
One neighbour said that the woman took her daughter with her and they had been gone for months, but neighbours were surprised to see the woman’s car parked outside the house that day.
Another neighbour said he did not hear any screaming from the house around the time incident was believed to have happened.
The toddler was taken to Fairfield police station last night as officers searched for carers to take her in.
There were two vans on the front lawn of the home last night, which neighbours said were regularly parked at the property.
Homicide Squad detectives and local police are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the coroner.
