This is the heartwarming photo of a bride breastfeeding her baby during her wedding day that melted hearts across the world.
There’s no stopping for Christina Torino-Benton when she hears her nine-month-old daughter, Gemma cry — a sign that she needs to breastfeed her — not even her wedding day.
On June 18, Christina married her husband, Danny Benton. She was expecting things to turn out just like any other ceremony when suddenly she heard her little girl crying and began to feel worried and tense. “I’m a firm believer in secure attachment, so when she was crying I couldn’t focus on anything except her,” she told Kidspot.
Since Gemma is exclusively breastfed and Christina doesn’t pump, the decision came easy for her — even in the middle of the ceremony. She said she took her baby, settled her on her lap and nursed her during the service.
“Me taking her was the only real solution. Anyways, as soon as I got her and started to nurse, I was able to focus on my wedding and relax,” she said.
The precious photo, which has now gone viral, was captured by her wedding photographer Lana Nimmons, showing Christina and Danny listening during the service while Christina breastfeeds her baby.
Christina said she was also touched by the support she got from her guests, especially with all the criticisms of breastfeeding in public.
“In a Catholic ceremony, you face the altar most of the time. But when they realised what I was doing, they were all very supportive…I’m really proud of how far I’ve come”¦ At first I was very shy and would hide away to feed her, but now I put her needs before the possibility of offending anyone,” she said.
Christina, who is a mother of two, wants her daughters to understand that breastfeeding is a part of life.
“I feel like I’m trying to “normalise” it in my own home – I have a six-year-old daughter who sees me doing what I have to do. And I hope it encourages her one day to do the same,” she said.
