A three-month-old girl was found outside a student share house in Brisbane after being allegedly dumped by her mother.

Police are now investigating the mother of the infant, who was found by a student, after allegedly dumping her baby in the student’s share house in Herston in Brisbane.

The baby was found asleep and alone on the front verandah of the house and was found by a PhD student, Long Nguyen, who was on his way to university, at around lunchtime on Sunday.

“I was about to go to school and as I walked on the front porch I discovered that there was a baby girl. For awhile I was quite in shock”¦ because I really didn’t know what was going on, it took me a few minutes to just calm myself down,” he said.

Mr Nguyen took the baby inside the house and called police. “She woke up and started crying and I tried to calm her down, I turned on the TV and let her watch some cartoons, but well, that didn’t really help,” he said.

Investigators cannot tell how long the baby had been left outside.

Shortly after, the baby’s 41-year-old mother was found at Brisbane airport along with her two-year-old child, the Daily Mail Australia reports. It was not clear if she was planning to board a flight.

Seven News understands that the baby’s mother and the toddler were reported missing by the father early Monday morning after disappearing for more than 24 hours.

A Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that the mother was then transported to Prince Charles Hospital for a health assessment.

The baby was also taken to Lady Cilento Hospital where she was later given a clean bill of health. Mr Nguyen said he was thankful after receiving a call that the baby is okay. “Later that day, I got a call saying she’s ok now, she’s been reunited to her extended family so I think that’s very good,” he said.

Brisbane City CPIU is investigating the incident.
