The family of a mother has been left heartbroken after she suddenly died while feeding her baby.
Deanna Rose Gioia, 35, from Staten Island in the US, was cradling her two-month-old daughter, Adrianna as she prepared to feed her on Sunday, when suddenly, she called out to her husband, Richard Gioia saying she was not feeling well.
However, when Richard ran into the room within just seconds, Deanna was already unresponsive. Paramedics were called and she was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead, just two days before her daughter turned two months old.
“Just like that, she was gone,” Debbie DiSalvatore, Deanna’s mother, told Staten Island Live.
The cause of Deanna’s death was still unknown. Her family said that before her death, she was in good health and didn’t have any complications when she gave birth.
Debbie said Deanna became a registered nurse in 2012 and was a natural at that, one who has been taking care of people her whole life. She put off college to figure out what she wanted to do with her life, and she found her answer at the emergency department of Staten Island University Hospital North.
She said that Adrianna Rose’s birth on May 29 was the happiest day of Deanna’s life. “She adored Adrianna. Deanna was such a good mother,” Debbie said.
Now, Deanna’s family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page that has since raised more than $60,000 for the baby.
Her family are also awaiting the autopsy report to reveal Deanna’s cause of death.
