A mother has caught media attention after promoting on Facebook about opening a ‘vaccine-free childcare services’ in her own home.
The Sunday Telegraph reported that Heidi Street, from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, took to the secret Facebook group, which has over 5,000 members, to offer childcare services to interested parents.
In her post on March 15, mum-of-two Ms Street promoted her plan for ‘Vaccine-free childcare on the Northern Beaches’. She said that she has ‘a strong passion for children’s health and wellbeing’.
“I would like to open a daycare in my home for 3-4 children, 2 days per week. I’m flexible with hours and days,” she wrote.
She also mentioned the different activities that children would take part in while in her care such as walking to the beach and yoga.
Ms Street has stated to The Daily Telegraph, “Many families are concerned about vaccinating. Yes it’s in response to No Jab No Play.”
Health authorities have major concerns that “vaccine free” childcare centres could become a serious health risk for the children involved with diseases like measles, mumps and whooping cough already circulating in Australia.
In 2014, New South Wales has implemented the ‘no jab, no play’ laws which mean unvaccinated children can be banned from childcare centres. However, parents who object to vaccinations are still allowed to present a form co-signed by them and a doctor or an authorised immuniser.
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said he wanted all unvaccinated children to be banned from being enrolled in childcare centres and preschools across Australia.
