A mother was sentenced to jail for putting a dog collar, which delivers electric shocks, and other ways of torture on a little boy.
A court heard that 34-year-old Lanna Monaghan, who is pregnant with another child, has admitted to using dog collar, among other torture methods, on a little boy since April last year.
Glasgow’s High Court heard that Ms Monaghan used the dog collar on the boy “to test how effective it was.”
The court also heard that she forced the boy to take icy showers, bit him, kicked him, and repeatedly hit him with a wooden spoon, once so hard that it snapped.
The horrific abuse took place for a period of 15 months, from April 2015 to July 2015, and only stopped when a family member reported Ms Monaghan to the authorities.
During the sentence hearing, Judge Lady Rae told Ms Managhan, who wept throughout the hearing:
“You have pleaded guilty to a catalogue of offences over the period of 15 months involving the physical abuse of a defenceless little boy.
“He did not suffer lasting physical effects, but it is impossible to determine what the emotional impact on this little boy will be in the future.
“This defenceless little boy must have been terrified of you. You should be thankful that you were eventually reported for what you were doing,” she said.
Ms Monaghan was sentenced to three years in prison.
