If not for several seizures, a woman may not have found out she was pregnant!
Brooke Williams, 26, from Utah in the US, was told she was infertile after treatment for a brain tumour when she was a child.
So, when she was rushed to hospital on Sunday suffering five seizures, she and her husband Calvin, 27, got the biggest shock of their lives as they were told that Brooke was already 35 weeks pregnant.
After the sixth seizure, Brooke became stable for 90 minutes and the doctors rushed her in to have a c-section, in the hopes that it would stop the seizures. Hours later, the couple welcomed a healthy baby girl.
Calvin told NBC 4 New York: “Just a whirlwind. It’s been crazy. I’ve had every emotion, really,” he said, adding that they were surprised to learn that Brooke was pregnant as she did not experience any pregnancy symptoms. “She never felt sick, she never felt her stomach move,” he explained.
Because of her cancer, Brooke also gets irregular periods that would either last a few weeks or are non-existent for many months.
Calvin also said that doctors were also baffled when they got blood samples to treat Brooke’s seizures. “They did blood work. The guy came back and said “¦ ‘This level is common with someone who is pregnant,'” he said.
Calvin called her her little girl a ‘miracle’ baby. “Without any prenatal care, being a month early, and she’s great,” Calvin said.
