Mum Gives Birth to Possibly Biggest Newborn in Victoria

A mother has given birth to a baby boy weighing over six kilograms, more than twice the size of an average newborn. 

Natashia Corrigan, from Preston, was not expecting such a big surprise but admits that she was dreaming of having a big baby.

Baby Brian Junior was born at Mercy Hospital in Melbourne on Tuesday morning, tipping the scales at 6.06 kilograms or 13.2 pounds and stretching 57 centimetres long. He is so big that he weighs more than double the average birth weight of an average Australian newborn and the same as an average five-month-old boy.

In an interview with 7 News, Natashia said she was hoping for a ‘little fat baby’ but was still suprised when her baby arrived.

“I dreamed of a little fat baby.

“I’ve always wanted a little fat baby and I’ve got a big one!,” she said.

She then took to social media to express their delight at the arrival of their biggest surprise.

“It’s hard to get our minds around such a whirlwind of a day.. I never dreamed we’d get so much love for our BIG baby boy and family…I never dreamed he’d be this big, thought he’d be an 11 pounder at the max!

“But we were blessed with a safe delivery of a 13.5 pounder! I’m still in shock!! Lol Thanks again to everyone!,” Natashia said.

She said that she and her partner, Brian Liddle were shocked at the size of their baby boy, who has skipped baby nappies and moved on to size 0 clothing.

Born at 40 weeks and five days, Brian Jnr could possibly be the biggest newborn in Victoria.

Amazingly, Natashia gave birth vaginally and all she had was gas. She said that the hospital staff and her partner helped her get through the birth. “They kept me strong and calm when it seemed like chaos was happening around me. Because he was so big, it was a bit hard to get him out, and they had to get a few extra staff members to come in and help. This is the first pregnancy I’ve got to experience with a natural labour, the longest I’ve ever been pregnant and I’ve got the fat little man that I wanted,” she said.

Both Natashia and Brian Junior are doing well in hospital.
