Injured Five-Year-Old Boy Stayed With Father and Grandfather Killed in Crash

A heartbreaking story has emerged when a five-year-old boy stayed for hours by the side of his father and grandfather who were killed in a horror crash.

Hugh Christie was the sole survivor of a crash which killed his father, Paul Christie, 42, his grandfather, Bill Christie, 75, and real estate agent Adam O’Regan, moments after they viewed a rural property on Waverly Road, in Gundy, east of Scone, on Monday morning, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The group’s four-wheel drive rolled hundreds of metres down a cliff, throwing them from the vehicle.

Hugh miraculously survived with only a broken arm and stayed by his father and grandfather’s side for hours until help arrived. He was carried into a hospital on a stretcher at about 10 pm on Monday with visible injuries to his face. He was then airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he remains with his mother, while the bodies of his father, grandfather, and Mr O’Regan were expected to be recovered from a remote area near Gundy on Tuesday.

Since the accident, the boy’s grandmother has thanked the rescuers for their efforts. The boy’s family have also released a heartbreaking statement. “Yesterday our family suddenly lost a father and a grandfather. Our son, who thankfully sustained non-life threatening injuries, is understandably shaken and it is our family’s number one priority to be there and care for him as he recovers,” the statement reads.
