My Heart Is Raw. Because The Truth Is I Want My Son To Die.

Perth mother Isabella Darch, has opened up in the most, raw and honest way. In a heart-wrenching blog post, she tells of her family’s fatigue in their 3 year battle with their son Bede’s brain cancer.

No mother ever utters the words, “I Want My Son To Die, ” unless it is the lesser of two evils.

“I’m tired. He is tired. I want peace for him, rest. But I instantly hate myself because I know then that is all there will be. He will have no more growth, no more moments tenderly reaching out to his brother, laying next to his sister.”

“He wont squawk away at his dad anymore, he won’t let me kiss him in the way only I can.
He will just be gone. That is not enough for my special light filled boy. Life is hard but death seems worse.”

Diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour at just 4 months old, doctors gave the family the terrible news that he would only survive a few weeks.

But after 9 months of intensive chemotherapy, Bede pulled through but even after 3 years, still requires extensive 24-hour care and suffers extreme discomfort and pain.

Their ordeal has not just exhausted the family of 5 emotionally, but also financially. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the Darch’s skyrocketing expenses associated with their son’s round the clock care.

“His parents Issy and Roy have been by his side helping him make the most of his life, every step of the way. Trying to make sure every day has good times to counter the bad. They have put their whole worlds on hold, Roy lost his job due to Bede’s high care requirement. They have been dedicated to providing him with as many happy, peaceful, loving moments as possible to try and add some balance to his life.”

The GoFundMe page goes on to explain the son’s condition, “Bede can not talk or see. His whole central nervous system gets disorganised leaving Bede screaming and hitting his head and needing medication. Bede often vomits throughout the nights. His body doesn’t tolerate being fed even through a tube so feeding him is very difficult and more often than not means he needs to be sedated.”

Recent scans have shown that Bede’s condition had worsened and doctors have informed the Darch’s that he has but 6 months to live.
