A 14-year-old boy has allegedly shot dead his mother and eight-year-old brother while they slept and then tried to blame his father for the killings.
TribLive.com reported that Jacob Remaley, from Pennsylvania in the US, allegedly shot first his mother, Dana Remaley, 46, then his brother, Caleb Remaley, in the forehead with a Ruger .380 handgun inside the family’s home on Thermo Village Road in New Stanton just before 7am last Wednesday. He then called 911, telling a dispatcher that his mother and younger brother were killed by his father.
In a probable cause affidavit, he told the operator: “Why didn’t he kill me? I need help.”
First responders who arrived on the scene found the boy standing in the front yard with blood on his knee, wearing only a T-shirt and boxer briefs, and repeating the word, ‘Mom.’
Jacob was later taken to a hospital where he was questioned by police and confessed that he took an unloaded handgun from the top of the refrigerator, loaded it with a magazine and intentionally shot his mother and brother in their beds after his father went to work.
The boy’s father, David Remaley had left the house to go to work at a VA hospital at around 5.40am and was not harmed. However, Jacob allegedly told police he would have shot his father, too, had he been home.
Mrs Remaley and her son were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 9am. Police have recovered the suspected murder weapon.
Being a former US Army veteran who had served in Iraq, Mr Remaley had a license to carry and had a handgun on him at all times, and at least one other firearm at home, according to his father, also named David Remaley.
A family friend described Jacob as a polite, kind, straight-A student who was involved in sports and in church.
The boy was charged as an adult with two counts each of criminal homicide and third-degree murder.
State Police Trooper Stephen Limani says the only possible motive is that the teen and his parents weren’t getting along lately, but, Jacob and his younger brother were on good terms.
