If you believe what some people are saying, the future of sex is starting to look remarkably like that described in Terminator… as far as the robots are concerned.
Yes that’s right, hot cyborgs are on the horizon for the sex industry, and the companies behind them are pretty confident they’re going to totally change the game. Erotic robots with a pulse and lifelike warm skin (shudder) might soon be coming to a sex shop near you. According to the Daily Star Online they are remarkably realistic, and can even “talk dirty” and “respond” to their non-robot love partners.
However, a leading sex robot maker Matt McMullen, who is pushing for the sexy cyborgs to be accepted by the public, says his intention is not for robots to replace human relationships. Rather, the robots will be a third option, and many people are interested in trying them out.
Mr McMullen is the CEO of sex doll company RealDoll. He recently spoke to Daily Star Online about his product, which he thinks is going to fire up a lot of curiosities:
“Everyone wants to know what is it going to be like?” Matt said.
“It’s going to be an amazing new experience that no one has ever had before.”
Mr McMullen says that his company is trying to move the desire for sex beyond physical beings, and that comes from both the sex doll’s realistic front, as well as her AI interface.
“In order for people to find themselves attracted to the A.I she’s really funny, she makes me laugh, she has the same interests as me,” he said.
“So then blokes want to take it to the next level to give them that feeling ‘I’d really like to have sex with her’.”
The dolls, which currently are only available in the female form, will apparently be taking bedrooms by storm in the very near future. Producers boast they will improve bedroom skills, help men last longer, and support them to be more adventurous lovers. Mr McMullen compares it to improving form and strength when you go to the gym.
“Having sex with the robot is only going to help you with your ‘skills’,” he said.
“It will get you to last longer in bed, try different positions and be more adventurous.”
But it’s not just about sex. Mr McMullen said that the AI in the planned robots will need to be seduced, charmed and engaged by the user, bringing it well into the realm of social interaction.
It’s not an idea that sits well with everyone, and even Mr McMullen himself admitted that the entire thing was a “giant experiment” and that his company and others “don’t know how or where it will go”. Of course, that’s what he finds so exciting about it.
