Get fit from home with these cost-saving ideas

Well, just because you can’t afford to go to the gym doesn’t mean you’ll never be fit. Get fit from home with these simple ideas!

Reasons to Get Fit From Home:

For many of us with young children, the practicality of going to the gym is out of the question. So we need something simple we can do at home that keeps our bodies in great shape without having to slog it out for hours (because who has the time to do that !).

There are so many options – it is just a matter of choosing the right way to get fit from home – for you!

Invest in Basic Fitness Equipment

No, I’m not talking about a treadmill – easy and cheap exercise equipment. You don’t need a lot to get fit from home – you just need to be smart about it! We suggest:

Jumping Rope

Jumping rope is a fantastic way to get fit fast, and they cost under $20. Jumping ropes burn fat and build stamina. Start with 5 minutes per day and work your way up to more! You can pick them up pretty much everywhere!

Medicine Ball

If hand weights aren’t your thing – a medicine ball is a great alternative and there are so many ways to use it. We found this 15 Minute Medicine Ball Workout on Youtube which shows you some ways you can easily use it at home.

Aerobic Step

A tad pricer than a jumping rope or medicine ball – but if you have a set of steps at home – you don’t need one at all! I love doing ‘Step Aerobics’ but I’m so uncoordinated that it is embarrassing. So it’s fun to do a class at home, in front of the tv.

Hula Hoop

Hula Hoops are great fun! You can even buy weighted versions now for a really sweaty way to get fit from home!

Mini Trampolines

Mini Trampolines are hell fun, a great way to get exercise and you can store them under the bed once you have finished using them.

Download a Fitness App

There are multiple fitness apps you can download that are free (or for a small fee) that can really help you get motivated to exercise. Many of them will also go through specific exercises step by step, to ensure you get the best result (and that you aren’t hurting yourself in the process).

Set Up a Basic Home Circuit

If you get easily bored with doing the same exercises, a simple circuit could be the trick! Set up about five different ‘stations’ with varying difficulties. Grab yourself a good Yoga Mat so that you are nice and comfortable.

Some ideas for the stations include:

  • Squats
  • Burpee’s
  • Reverse Lunges
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Jump Squats
  • Push Up’s
  • Star Jumps
  • Planks
  • Crunches
  • Running on the Spot
  • Pull Ups
  • Walking Lunge

None of the above require any specialist gym equipment. But if you wanted to add some simple gym equipment – look at things like:

  • Gym Ball
  • Glute Bands
  • Dumb Bells
  • Boxing Bag
  • Basic Barbell
  • Workout Bench

Dance Your Heart Out

If exercise just isn’t your thing – put your favorite song on Spotify and dance to the full song. Enough to get a sweat up! Do that four or five times per day (not all at once) and you get your full 30 minutes of exercise.
