Clear Out The Baby Gear NOW!

3 min read

There comes a time when the growing clutter simply becomes too much, especially if you’re a parent with growing kids.

If you have been holding into items of your children’s past for several years now, then you probably have at least a closet (or entire room) full of items that need to go somewhere…. so what can you do with all that baby junk?

We’re talking about those dressers of teething toys, those boxes of infant bodysuits, the cot, the change table, the mobile, the nappy genie, the baby Bjorn, the swing, the bouncer, the stroller, the car seat and all of those other ‘must have’ baby items that seem about as useful now as a hole in the head.

Bye Bye Baby Items

So what should you do with everything? There are several different choices. If you are looking to make a little money and the items are in decent condition, then you can sell these things. Start by going through everything you have, cleaning it up and then taking photos of everything. There is a good chance that you will need to post some pictures of these items online if you choose to go this route.

You can have a ‘baby item garage sale’ and try to sell as many items as possible in one weekend. Bundle up the baby clothes as well as toys so that there are a few items sold together.

For example, you will make more if you sell several baby items as a set for $15.00 bundles rather than trying to sell each item for $1.00 or 50 cents. Baby garage sales are particularly good for larger items, such as cots, swings and bouncers, as well as strollers. The items that don’t sell this way can be sold through online auctions.

Selling Baby Items Online

EBay is a great place to sell bundles of baby clothes, toys and anything else. You can choose to let buyers ‘bid’ or offer them a ‘buy it now’ price. Just keep in mind that you will need to post these items and that they should be in decent condition. For the bigger items you can choose ‘pick up only’ so that you are not worrying about the cost of freight.

Another great online source for selling baby items is Gumtree.

You can also try the local trading post website or even your local Facebook Buy, Sell and Swap page. The good thing about these sites is that you will be connecting to others in the same area as you simply by posting a picture and a price of each item.

Anything that you cannot sell, you can donate to places like Lifeline. However, keep in mind that some items, such as extra old cots and car seats, will be useless as there are certain safety standards that must be met.

If you are done having children, then it’s time to let go of these items.

This can be especially hard and there may be a few items that you do hold onto for keepsake.

For example, you may want to set aside one (just one!) container for each child for mementos such as the baby book, the outfit you took bubba home from the hospital in, one of his cutest outfits, a beanie, a pair of socks, a favourite toy and book and perhaps any handprints or special photo frames, money box or bracelet that you received as a baby shower or Christening gift.

These things are simply too precious to sell or give away.
