The Bouquet
Traditionally, the bouquet was made of herbs like sage for wisdom, dill for lust and garlic to ward off evil spirits. The bride’s attendants carried wheat, a symbol of fertility.
Tossing the Bouquet
In medieval times women attending the wedding wanted a share in the bride’s good luck and believed that a piece of the wedding dress or the bride’s flowers would deliver such luck. So the bride could escape intact, she would throw the bouquet as she ran out. Today the bouquet is tossed to single women with the belief that whoever catches it will be the next to marry.
