The average Botox user is aged between 40 and 59, however women in their 20s and 30s regularly have the procedure to fix issues that trouble them, such as frown lines.

There have been reports of a new trend of young people having “preventative” Botox, including some as young as teenagers, with the belief that if they begin young they can prevent wrinkles from ever appearing at all. Reportedly, girls and women aged between 16-25 have been opting for Botox more in the last two years than ever before.

A survey of 4000 young Australian girls found that 25% of 11 to 18-year-olds said they’d like plastic surgery. Teen idols like Kylie Jenner aren’t shy about saying they’ve had Botox. An 18-year-old pop star, Charice Pempengco, admitted to having Botox injections to look “fresh on camera” when preparing to take on a role on TV show “Glee”.

Experts warn that this trend might backfire, with a German study finding women who overuse anti-wrinkle injections can actually become immune to the neurotoxin, which means they will need bigger doses to reach the same effect. It’s recommended that women hold off having the injections until after the age of 30.
