11. Sedlec Ossuary, Czech Republic
Of course there’s more than one terrifying church made out of bones. Actually, this one is even worse than the other one. There are way more bodies here, and the design is scream-worthy. Just imagine 40,000 bodies de-constructed and hanging in various places around this creepy church and you’re starting to get an idea.
12. Old Jewish Cemetery, Prague
Cemeteries are already pretty creepy, without much extra being required at all. Well, this Jewish Cemetery in Prague is even more creepy with just a little extra information. It’s about layers. Yep, there are 12 layers of graves in the cemetery, which brings overcrowded to a new level. So, although you can only see 12,000 tombstones, there’s about 100,000 people buried there!
13. Leap Castle, Ireland
With a reputation as one of the most haunted castles in the world, it’s not surprising that Leap Castle is on this list. Built in 1250, its history has been brutal and bloody, with deaths aplenty occurring within its walls. At one point, a priest was murdered in cold blood during mass, and is said to be one of the ghosts who haunts the castle’s walls.
14. Island of the Dolls, Mexico
Legend says that a little girl drowned in the river close to the Island of the Dolls, and a few days after her body was recovered, a doll washed up there. The island’s caretaker hung it in a tree to please her spirit, but apparently one doll wasn’t enough. He kept hanging dolls there, until finally he himself drowned in the same spot, maybe driven crazy by her spirit.
15. Plague Island, Italy
Poveglia, also known as plague island, is a small island near Venice that was once used as a quarantine for around 160,000 people with the plague. Used between 1793 and 1814, the island has many mass graves of the plague victims. Then between 1922 and 1968, a mental hospital used the site, and a number of patients were rumoured to have been tortured by doctors. Creepy!
