As a brand new year ushers in, we want to make ourselves brand new too.
Taking out all the bad habits you’ve done for the whole year and just looking forward to a better you the next are easier said than done, and that’s exactly the reason why we make New Year’s resolutions each year to help ourselves change and improve.
However, as I said, it’s easier than done. So how can you really stick to your New Year’s resolution and not backing down and say, “Well, I still have more New Year to come anyway.”
Here are some tricks that might help you finish what you wanted to do for the year and really do things as planned— and yep! Fulfil your dream New Year’s Resolution!
1. Make simple resolutions.
Try breaking your bigger resolutions into simple ones. If you want to save, let’s say $5000 per year, try saving at least $100 a week.
This way, it’s easier to achieve your target amount. If you want to lose weight, try losing a few pounds slowly each week or month rather than losing weight too fast. And plus! This one goes to the list of best steps to be on top of your New Year’s Resolution.

2. Take little steps.
It’s okay to dream big but as they say, every journey begins with a single step. So if you dream of losing 20 pounds, don’t starve yourself right then and there and don’t do an intense workouts the first time around.
Try switching to healthier choices of food first then gradually control your food intake. Also, keep an exercise routine starting with easy workout moves before going into more intense ones. If you keep doing these, eventually, you’ll get there.
3. Make a schedule.
Spread out your calendar and write down a schedule of your workout sessions, dance classes or any activity you would like to engage in to achieve your goal, like losing weight.
If you feel like rescheduling, just think about your timeframe and your target weight to beat.
4. Be realistic.
One thing to achieve your New Year’s Resolution? Keep your resolutions achievable.
Don’t aim too high. Try assessing yourself and see how much weight you can really lose in a year or how much can you save in a year considering your daily activities and expenses. Just set short-term goals to better get bigger achievements.

5. Have a positive mind.
Being positive means always looking at the bright side of life. If you failed at achieving a part of your resolution, don’t let it drag you down. Instead, be challenged to acquire your desired results.
6. Record your achievements (or failures).
Keep track of your daily wins to see where you’re at. You can make some tweaks along the way, by that I mean, tweaks that will push you more. This will help you feel good about what you have achieved so far.
However, you may want to also take note of your failures. Let failures motivate you to strive more. If you lost your way somewhere, try going back to your set goals and start anew, but this time, be determined.— and in no time, you’ll just find yourself fulfilling your dream New Year’s Resolution.
7. Reward yourself.
Give yourself something in return once you achieve your goals. Just make sure it doesn’t go against what you have worked so hard for (like going on a shopping spree when you struggled to save so much or eating unhealthily when you vowed to only choose healthy foods).
Rewards also motivate you to continue working your way towards your goals.
8. Ask a friend to join you in your goals.
Keeping up with your New Year’s Resolution would be better with a friend!
If you have friends who also want to have a better self in the coming year, ask them if they want to achieve that with you together. Try challenging each other to no-spend days.
Get into a weight loss challenge and the one who loses weight by the end of the challenge wins something (which goes back to trick number 7).
9. Don’t delay.
They say, don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do for today. Do everything right on time. If you delay, chances are, you’ll never achieve your goals and your New Year’s Resolution will end up again on your list next year…and the next…and the next…
10. Don’t ever ever give up.
Most importantly, NEVER.GIVE.UP. When you put your mind to a goal, be prepared for everything that comes your way.
If you’re faced with more hardships than accomplishments, be ready to face it with a positive mind and heart. Shoo away negative thoughts and continue to move towards your goal.
