I have a question for you, mums: What did you have to give up in order to stay at home with your children?
Choosing to become a stay-at-home mum is not an easy decision because we have to give up a lot. We do not only give up our careers but also a little bit of our social life, a little bit of our personal time, and maybe a little bit of what’s left of our sanity.
But what if you need to sacrifice more than those things?
Take for example the beautiful Mila Kunis. I just read an article from OK about her and husband, Ashton Kutcher, saying that she’s willing to put her Hollywood career on hold to be a full-time hands-on mum to their daughter. She said she’s taking the time off while she “makes the world a better place” for their child (Source).
Ladies and gentlemen, Mila Kunis is a stay-at-home mum. Wow.
Giving up an office job is one thing. Giving up a lucrative Hollywood career is a completely different story!
I’m not downplaying us, regular mums, but let’s admit that being an actor is a little more complicated. Once you’re out of the picture, even for just a few months, people may forget about you. Out of sight, out of mind. So while I’m amazed at Mila Kunis’ decision, I’m also wondering: is it worth it?
She admits that mothering must be one of the most challenging roles she has ever played, but look at her. Just look at her. Doesn’t that radiant face spell h-a-p-p-y?
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have really become hands-on parents. They’ve become homebodies in their 10-million dollar Beverly Hills home. They’ve become totally involved in the community. Their lives have revolved around their daughter, Wyatt Isabelle. I don’t know about you, but that’s the quiet life I have always imagined living okay, maybe not with the 10-million dollar house and their devotion to family is rather admirable.
I think it’s safe to assume that they’re loving the quiet break from the glaring Hollywood lights. For Mila Kunis, perhaps it’s not even that much of a sacrifice on her part. Perhaps she’s always imagined this kind of lifestyle: quiet walks with her family in their peaceful neighbourhood, not having to wear a lot of makeup or wear glamorous clothes every single day, switching her purse for a Prada nappy bag, and just being there to see her daughter’s firsts.
And sources say they’re not even employing a nanny. They’re taking care of the baby by themselves, which is a challenging feat! The husband and wife are a team, and I believe they’re doing an awesome job at parenting.
So I also think it’s safe to assume that she’s loving being a SAHM. Maybe it’s everything she could have asked for. I believe she has still a career waiting for her when she returns to Hollywood; after all, she just had a movie. For now, let’s just revel in the fact that she thinks becoming a mum is one of the most wonderful things that happened to her.
