Looking back on the things we did as kids, it’s easy to see things through rose coloured lenses, remembering fondly all the wild fun you used to have.
Until you have kids that is.
Then all you can think about is the crazy, irresponsible and downright dangerous things you did as a child that you would absolutely never let your children do today. Here are just a few of them.
Climb Everything
Even as an uncoordinated kid, I was a climber. I loved climbing trees, the outside of play equipment, fences, walls and pretty much anything else I could find. All the kids I knew were exactly the same as me.
Tree climbing was probably the favourite past time of afternoons and summer holidays, with lots of close calls and skin lost on rough bark. Now you almost never see children climbing trees, unless they’re closely followed by a screaming parent telling them to “Get down now!”. Lost days.
Not Wear A Helmet
Of course helmets are important, but when we were kids they weren’t just dorky looking, they were non-essential. Maybe you’d wear one if you went on one of those ‘family bike rides’ with your parents, but if you were just tearing around the neighbourhood or down to your local park it was helmets off and the wind in your hair!
What if you fell? We just tried not to think about it!
