Fairy Garden Party

Every girl (young and old!) dreams of going to a fairy garden party. Gorgeous looking finger food, fairy lights, cupcakes and flowers set the scene for what will be a magical celebration of your special little girl. Here are some ideas to kick start your creativity in hosting your own fairy garden party.

Invitations

If you are hand delivering your invitations, a fresh flower from the garden given with the invitation is a cute touch. Another inexpensive and fun idea is to put some fairy dust (glitter) in the envelope with the invitation. Or why not include with the invite a hair clip with a flower on (available from most variety shops) and ask your guest to wear it to the party.

Decorations

Now is your chance to bring out the Christmas fairy lights from storage and string them up in the garden to set the scene for your party. Choose a small section under trees, next to bushes or a hidden away place of the garden to host your fairy garden party. String up the lights on low hanging braches or over bushes to create a beautiful backdrop.

Get creative. Draw some flower/ fairy outlines on white cardboard and let the birthday girl colour them in and decorate with glitter in the week leading up to her party. If you need some pre-party therapy, join in the creativity it’s good for the soul! Cut the pictures out, pierce a small hole in the top and string them from trees and shrubs in the garden.

Snacks

Of course what would a fairy garden party be without fairy bread? Instead of the usual triangles, try using a cookie cutter to make star, heart or flower shapes out of the bread. Be sure to spread out a picnic rug or tablecloth on the ground under the trees to add to the experience.

A lovely drink idea is to have a pitcher of water with sliced strawberries inside; this gives the water a refreshing sweet flavour. It also looks gorgeous and is much healthier than soft drink for your guests.

Games

Pass the parcel is one of my all-time favourite party games and I love that the end prize can be adapted to suit the theme of your party. Some flower bulbs or cupcake kit would make a perfect prize for your garden party.

A craft activity (making necklaces or bracelets) is also a fun way to entertain your guests while staying in theme.

Cake

Pretty little cupcakes on a silver cupcake stand make for a perfect fairy garden birthday cake. You could put a few drops of pink food dye in the mixture before baking to give them a true fairy feel. Most supermarkets sell small edible sugar crafted flowers which you could use as cupcake toppers, or buy some edible glitter which you could sprinkle on top of the icing.

Party Favours

How about instead of just handing out the party bags at the end of the party, when the guests are busy try hanging them around the garden from branches for your guests to find before going home.
