Speaking of money, financial literacy is also a key skill for kids to learn but something that is rarely mastered until well into adulthood. Even schools, with their focus on math literacy, rarely talk about the practical side of these skills such as being able to set a budget, take on a conscious loan, maintain a savings account and do your own taxes. Learning this as an adult can feel overwhelming, but learning the basics as a child makes it much easier.

4. First Aid

Kids are often pushed aside in medical emergencies, making way for adults who know better. But what happens on the day those adults aren’t there? Even a minimal understanding of first aid can save your child from the helplessness of ignorance. It seems strange that while we do teach health in school, first aid is generally skimmed over or requires an outside-of-school lesson, which makes it just that much harder for kids to access it.
