He’s known for his tough act as a wrestler, his versatility as an actor, and his ingenuity as a producer, but have you seen his softer side?

If you still find it hard to love this year’s sexiest man alive, here are reasons that would make it easy for you to love Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.

1. He has a cool name.

His full name is Dwayne Douglas Johnson, but he is famously known by his wrestling ring name “The Rock.” He was born to Ata Johnson (a descendant of Samoan heritage) and professional wrestler Rocky Johnson on May 2, 1972 in Hayward, California.

2. …And a way cooler tattoo!

He lived with his mother’s family in Auckland, New Zealand during his early days. Later on, he was bestowed with noble title of Seiuli by the Samoan people and received a partial Samoan tattoo in his left arm.

3. He is a natural at wrestling.

Wrestling runs in his blood as most of his non-blood relatives were famous professional wrestlers including his cousins Solofa (Rikishi), Rodney (Yokozuna), Eddie (Umaga) and his uncles Afa and Sika Anoai ( The Wild Samoans).

He started wrestling under his real name but was changed to “Flex Kavana” in “United States Wrestling Association.”

He started his career in WWF under the name “Rocky Maivia” which he disliked. This was the combination of his father and grandfather’s ring name.

He suffered a knee injury when he lost the championship belt to Owen Hart on 28 April, 1997 which kept him out of the profession for some time but worked in his favor as he returned as a heel (bad guy). This change of character brought about change in his ring name. He preferred to call himself in the third person as “The Rock”.

4. He loves playing football.

He began playing football and taking part in Freedom High School’s track and field and wrestling games. He was considered as a very good football prospect.

5. He got two Guinness World Records. First, being the highest-paid actor in his debut film.

He made a debut in the movie “The Mummy Returns” as “The Scorpion King”. The movie became financially very successful, which led to him getting the leading role in the spinoff “The Scorpion King”

In 2007, he was listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest paid actor in his debut film with $5.5million for the leading role.

6. And again for the most selfies within 3 minutes.

He again got the Guinness World Records on May 21, 2015 during the Premiere of his movie, San Andreas, when he took 105 selfies with his fans.

7. His diet is just plain crazy!

He has a daily diet that consists of 5,165 calories or seven meals a day, totalling 10 pounds of food a day! But, the food he eats is healthy and he works out as much as he does.

8. He sometimes want to play characters that are out of his character.

He was considered for the role of Willie Wonka in “Charlie and the Chocolate factory” but the role went to Johnny Depp, and he was also considered for the leading role of “Johnny Bravo”, but the movie was shelved in the production stage.

9. He has a big heart.

In the year 2006, he founded Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation to help terminally ill children. In 2007, he along with his ex-wife donated a million dollar to the University of Miami for renovation of its football facility. This is the largest donation to the university by its former students.

10. He was responsible for the biggest opening for Fast and Furious.

He appeared as Luke Hobbs in the fifth instalment of the “Fast and Furious” series, and including him in the movie created a record grossing $86 million in the opening weekend. This is the biggest opening for him and the movie franchise.

11. He was a top-grossing actor.

In December 2013, he was named by Forbes as the Top Grossing actor of the year. They attributed it to the success of “Fast and Furious 6” and his regular acting work.

12. He wanted to play a villain in a James Bond movie.

He also wanted to follow his grandfather’s footsteps. Peter Maivia played as a villain in the movie “You Only Live Twice” in 1967.

13. He was (still is!) the sexiest man alive.

That towering height and huuuuuge muscles, People Magazine named him the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in 2016  Need I say more? Go ahead drool.

14. He is a huge Elvis Presley fan!

He brought his being an Elvis Presley fan to the movie, The Game Plan. Most of the Elvis memorabilia shown in the movie originally belongs to him.

In the movie, he sang “Are you lonesome tonight,” and incidentally, he sang it in the show Saturday Night Live when he hosted it for the first time.

15. And yes, he can sing!

He also set foot in the world of music, appearing briefly in Wyclef jean’s single “It doesn’t Matter” and in its video in 2000. He also recorded for WWF The Music, Vol 5.

His latest is Disney’s Moana where he played as the voice of Maui and sang one of the movie’s songs, “You’re Welcome”.

16. Surprise! Surprise! He’s an author too.

If being an wrestling, an actor and singer isn’t enough, add author to his list of accolades! In 2000, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson published his autobiography “The Rock Says” and it sold like hotcakes! He became a New York Times Best Seller on top of his bustling wrestling career at the time.

17. He’s the one and the only, The Rock!

He literally is! If you’re thinking of using the name ‘The Rock’ to serve your own purpose, I’m sorry, that’s already legally taken… by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson himself! Even if he wanted people to start calling him Dwayne Johnson as he veered away from wrestling and focused into acting, he didn’t completely let go of his claim to fame. He currently owns all legal rights to the name “The Rock.”

Ask Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson! Again, The Rock made history as he’s the reason the word ‘smackdown’ became part of the Merriam-Webster dictionary in 2007. Smackdown was one of the most popular catchphrases The Rock used in WWE. What does it mean? Well, look it up!

Doesn’t get more real than playing as your father on TV! Dwayne Johnson’s first TV character was his father! Who’s more fit to play the role of a famous wrestler, than that famous wrestler’s son! This was on the hit show, That 70’s Show back in 1999.

20. What if he flashed you with his FBI badge?

Too bad that will only be a what if, unless you watch him in his movies! Dwayne Johnson badly wanted to part of the FBI or CIA in real life! So badly that he did take up criminology and psychology in college. Again, too bad because he needs to further it with a law degree. But hey, he can play all the FBI and CIA roles he wants and we’d watch all of it!

21. He’s still a little boy deep down.

Looking at The Rock, you would think he’s not afraid of anything! Think again! This six-foot-four giant is apparently afraid of….. SPIDERS!!! Those tiny creatures make The Rock squirm! But he showed the world who’s The Rock when he faced his fear on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2007.

22. ….buuuut he was never little!

Even in highschool, Dwayne Johnson was towering all his classmates that they suspected he was a police officer going undercover! So badass.

23. He’s not American.

Don’t be so shocked, Dwayne Johnson was born in the United States but his mother’s heritage being a Samoan gave him a Samoan citizenship. And to pay his respects to his father, he came a Canadian citizen in 2009. Let’s just say he’s a citizen of the world so we can all call him ours!

24. He’s a proud girl-dad!

Yep, all the more reason to fall in love with Dwayne Johnson. He loves spending time with his baby girl, Tia, and posts it on social media for everyone to see. Of course, Tia loves her dad but it seems like she loves Maui in Moana more! When she grows up she’ll finally believe Maui and her dad is one and the same!
