Brown Sugar is one of those things I constantly run out of when I’m baking and although it is said you can replace it with white sugar – it doesn’t have that delicious caramel flavour that brown sugar is so good for! Now they say that brown sugar should really be made with Molasses – but seriously who has that lying around their cupboard, I found Golden Syrup worked a treat!. So today I’m going to show you how to make brown sugar at home – and it is super easy – you’ll never have to run to the shops again! You will need:
- 1.5 cups white sugar (plain or caster)
- 2 dessertspoons of Golden Syrup
Place the sugar in a bowl (or if you have an electric mixer – use that!) and add the Golden Syrup. Mix, mix and mix some more until the syrup is evenly spread throughout the sugar. It will go a lovely golden colour – much lighter than the normal brown sugar – but you won’t taste the difference in your cooking. Seal in a jar with a firm lid and keep in your cupboard until needed!
