Mmmmm, Garlic! It’s so tasty and fabulous in so many dishes, marinades and sauces BUT it can do a lot more than that!
Here are ten alternative uses for Garlic.
Pesticide Spray
Aphids, Cabbage moths and any number of grubs in the garden will be gone in no time if you make up a spray pesticide with garlic. Mince 3 cloves of garlic and add to 2 tbsp. of mineral oil and leave for 24 hours. Now strain the garlic out and add the oil into a spray bottle with a teaspoon of dish liquid and around 470ml of water then spray on infested or affected plants. All natural, no chemicals and works a treat!
Aid weight loss!
Research shows that garlic has weight loss properties due to the compounds found in it; it will actually make you feel full faster. It also boosts your metabolism which in turn makes you burn more calories!
Earache Remedy
Suffer from earaches? Crush a clove of garlic and add it a teaspoon of hot olive oil for five minutes. Strainand leave to cool. Use a few drops time in your ear canal and leave it to work. If you’d rather only use something that you have purchased from a store for ear aches, Health food stores and some Pharmacies also sell drops made the same way!
Psoriasis
Rub a little Garlic oil onto the affected area 1-2 times per day. The Anti-inflammatory properties will really help.
Cold N Flu
Ease a sore, inflamed throat and clear away mucous from a cold by consuming garlic cough mixture. Steep some fresh minced garlic, a little ginger and some honey to some hot water and leave to infuse for 5 minutes. Strain the mixture and drink it as a tea. You’ll be feeling better in no time!
Advance Your Hair
Help stimulate hair growth and slow hair loss by massaging the scalp with a little Garlic oil.
In the Bedroom
Spice it up in the bedroom. Garlic has been used as an aphrodisiac since ancient times. As Garlic aids circulation and helps pump blood to your extremities once it hits your stomach it can really help turn things on (so long as the smell doesn’t turn you off too much). It can also help increase men’s endurance between the sheets too!
Homemade disinfectant spray
Chop up a 3-4 cloves of garlic, and add them to a spray bottle of white vinegar. Add in a few drops of lemon oil and away you go. It kills germs naturally and fast!
Face exfoliating cleanser
Although it’s not common knowledge, Garlic is great for treating acne and tightening the skin. Make up a paste using finely minced garlic, olive oil, a little facial cleanser and some sugar; massage into skin in circular motions, then rinse with warm water. Be aware though; if you have any broken skin, it will sting at first so be mindful of any on the face or hands!
Natural Mozzie Repellent
Mozzies hanging around your entertaining area? Place a couple of cloves or full clusters of cloves around as a repellent! Mozzies hate it (and you’ll never have vampires hanging round either!)
Garlic really is an amazing (and yummy) addition to any house or garden. It also has antifungal properties, healing properties and tastes yummy roasted and added to some bread!!
