Today’s problem solved: Can I wear my PJ’s out of the house?
Dear Aunty Sahm,
I just bought the most amazing PJ pants for spring. My question is, do you think I can get away with passing them off as pants? They look sort of like those ones with elastic waist and cuff pants everyone is wearing?
Your thoughts please?
Oh Sunny! I know the ones you mean! My sister sent a pair for my birthday. The ones from Sussan? Amaze-freakin-balls. Lucky for you, which is I’m sure why you asked, I already wore mine outside of the house, so can share my extensive experience in such matters.
When they arrived, I wasn’t feeling so hot, but hadn’t changed out of my other pj’s for”¦.a few days – let’s say. When I finally dragged myself into the shower and got out and popped them on, I was instantly transformed. A picture of glamorous sleepwear.
Then a second thought sprang into my mind: I could even be a picture of glamorous day wear. I mean, the quality was there, I checked the tag, it didn’t actually say sleep wear on it. So I popped out, with my second wind and super hot comfy pants on. I ran some errands, shopped a bit and hardly anyone looked twice at me (except maybe in green eyed jelly of the said pants).
After all this I popped in on a friend for a coffee on the way home. She answered the door in a onesie. “Holy Shit!” she exclaimed, “I knew someone would catch me in this”. And after a few moments, she asked if I was also out and about in PJ’s?
“These fab new pants?” I say. “Aunty S,” she tactfully replies “they’re definitely PJ pants.”
So there you have it. Although complete strangers may overlook you out and about in you’re PJ’s they are only being polite. They are probably thinking internally, ‘Poor love, so haggard can’t even get out of her PJ’s ‘ when sadly the reality is you thought you looked smokin’ enough in your new dacks to head out.
Seems only a bestie in her onesie will lay it out for you straight. You can always wear them all day around the house and act super cool when you’re next complimented for your loungewear style.
xx Aunty S
