How will you stop a bear from attacking? Use a pepper spray? Shout at the bear? Or beg it to stop? These are what this desperate woman did — and it’s hysterically funny!
Mary Maley, who was on a solo trip to southern Alaska, never expected to have an uninvited guest go near her — a black bear — just after she left her kayak near the waters.
Daily Mail reported that Ms Maley made the unfortunate stop when she was around halfway between a journey through Alaska’s Inside Passage, from Ketchikan near the extreme south of the state to Petersburg, some 110 miles north…and her kayak was her only way to get out of the remote Berg Bay, where she had paused to use a U.S. Forest Service unmanned cabin.
In this video she uploaded herself, she wrote: “I had just carried my tent, food, and all my gear into the cabin to dry while I went on a 4 mile hike that begins just behind the cabin. I heard something outside as I ate my lunch, and well, I never got to go on that hike. This video is taken 5 minutes after the attack began, he continued to gnaw on it for another 5 or 10 after the video ends.”
At the start of the video, she attempts to scare the incoming bear by pepper spraying it, while strongly shouting at it to go away and it did. But, what she didn’t know was that the bear was aiming for her kayak as it slowly goes towards it.
This is when she starts to beg it to stop and this is when everything started to get funny. So funny, that this video has now racked up over 3.8 million views. Watch this:
With her only escape destroyed, Maley desperately swam to a passing sailing boat, whose crew rescued her and took her to safety.
Well, sometimes, you just can’t convince everybody (or everything) all the time. Better luck next time!
