Yes, you usually have to provide proof that it is your birthday, but if you have your driver’s licence handy — be prepared to start cashing in when your birthday arrives!

Some establishments offer you free drinks or free food if you provide proof it is your birthday.  Others will require you to sign up to their newsletter or loyalty program to be able to claim your freebie.
