People online got mixed feelings over a mum who charges each family member $54 to eat at her house on Christmas Day.
Mum-of-four Gemma Andrews has always been the one in charge of all the cooking on Christmas Day because her house is the only one big enough to accommodate the whole family.
However, with years of trying to urge her relatives to pitch in by cooking a dish, but to no avail, she decided to take matters in a non-traditional way.
“The very first year I opened my house to everybody on Christmas Eve I got let down by five people and I had so much excess food,” she said. “The year after, I tried ‘bring a dish’. Come Christmas Eve, people said ‘Oh I forgot to get it’ and I’m running around trying to find a bag of prawns. It’s more stressful.”
And so, Ms Andrews made a different plan to put an end to last-minute drop outs and the expense of cooking on Christmas Day and charged $54 (£30) per adult, with children going free.
However, her decision didn’t go well with the some people online. One tweeted: “Charging your own FAMILY for Christmas dinner is absolutely disgusting, using Christmas day as a chance to make money is greedy anyway never mind from your own family.”.
But, there are others who said that it’s okay. “I certainly wouldn’t mind paying £60 for me, my husband and 2 kids and go somewhere for Christmas Dinner and not have to worry about any food, drink or washing up”¦ Bargain I’d say!” one said.
