10. Sponsor A Child
Often, kids react strongest to the things that are familiar to them. That’s why many parents choose to teach their children about living a charitable life through sponsoring a child in a developing country. Many charities allow families to support a child throughout their childhood and education, and allow letters to be written between sponsor and the child. This is a really good way for your own child to see beyond their own life, and to become aware of how lucky they are to have the opportunities that their life affords. It’s also a great way to encourage charity from the get-go.
11. Recycle Toys And Clothes
Charity is a cycle. When things are going well for you and your family, you give to help others who are struggling. And, in the same way, others will likely help you if you fall on tough times. A good way to teach kids this is to get them to recycle their gently used clothing and toys. This is great for toys they don’t play with anymore, and clothes they have outgrown. It also shows them that giving is about more than just money or presents, and that things that might not appear to have much value can make a difference in some people’s lives.
12. Set A Good Example
Of course, the best way to help your child to be a more charitable person is to set a good example of that kind of charity in your own life. Offer help to those around you, be caring to your neighbours and your community as well as your family. Be generous when you’re able, even if that just means being generous with your time. Children see these things, and that charitable behaviour becomes normal to them, making it very easy for them to continue to practice it well into their own adulthood.
